‘Twilight’ fan killed by car at Comic-Con #RIPTwiFanG

We have sad news to report from Comic-Con in San Diego.  A Twilight fan waiting to see the Breaking Dawn Part 2 panel was tragically killed by a car at the convention center.

From 10news:

SAN DIEGO — A woman reportedly in town to attend Comic-Con International 2012 was struck and killed by a car Tuesday in front of the San Diego Convention Center, where the highly popular annual event takes place, authorities reported.

The motorist had a green light when his westbound vehicle hit the 53-year-old pedestrian on Harbor Drive at Fifth Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

“Apparently the pedestrian, as she went (along) the crosswalk, stumbled and fell and struck the vehicle as it passed by her,” SDPD Sgt. Ron Glass told 10News.

Medics took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman was visiting the city for this year’s Comic-Con convention, which begins Wednesday evening, 10News reported. Her name was withheld pending family notification.

UPDATE 3: I’ve now learned that the victim’s name was Gisella G. and that her Twitter handle was @Mad4Hugh. A photo of her with friends camping for the event can be seen here (the woman in the green shirt). The area is now being blocked off by police, as can be seen in this picture. She was reportedly 53 years old, and the driver was a 67-year-old male.

UPDATE 4: Some fans are now petitioning for a moment of silence during the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 panel in honor of Gisella. You can sign it here. Other fans have now organized afundraiser for funeral expenses for the victim’s family.

UPDATE 5: Lionsgate and Summit will remember her in Hall H tomorrow. They have released this official statement.

Lionsgate, Summit and the entire Twilight community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year’s convention in San Diego.  Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends.  She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H.

We are deeply sadden by this tragic news.  This Twilight fandom is like a family.  We are all grieving for her right now.

    It pains my heart to have this unexpected tragedy among us but on the other hand it warms. My heart to be a part of such a really dedicated fanbase who really come together as a community and support one another. During these dark times that we have it is important for us to be together. Though we may come from difffrent places and r in different shapes and sizes we r one big family. The bonds that we have shared for these few years and many more as we live will b more important and r precious than u can imagine. I was gonna save this speech for the movie but I think now would bea good time. This should b a pivotal reminder that r time on earth is brief we need to make the most of r lives everyday and make something special out of it.     Wow… First, prayers to Gisella’s family! What a terrible, terrible tragedy! To loose a family member and friend so suddenly is horrific and I hope they know how much we all support them in their time of need.

    I know that we all have our differences, but this saga has brought together so many wonderful ppl whom without this series might have never met. I know I didn’t know Gisella personally, but I feel as though the world has lost a wonderful woman whom will be sorely missed. I am thankful that we are all connected through our love for the Twilight saga, and reading about the tragic death of a fellow fan has saddened me in a way I never anticipated.

    RIP Gisella! I’m sure God has gained yet another precious angel in you.
