Twilight Demographics: Popularity by State and Age

179 Comments November 19, 2011 by Filed Under: Twilight

Goodread takes a look at where the Twilight books are most popular by both state and age in the US.

The middle of the country comes out on top, the so-called “Twilight Belt,” and Utah makes a remarkable exception with the 6th highest number of readers  while only being the 34th most populous state.

You’ll note than there are more 43 year olds than 13 year olds reviewing the book!

Also, JayPat nailed it when she said during a Tv interview that around 95% of fans are women-the infographic notes than 12 times more women read Twilight than men, and 12 divided by 13 is 92.3%!

MissN.Gravety, that was AMAZING!! Thank you so much, you helped me relive a lot of my favorite moments from the film. Wow, great review!

Whoa calm down! And no need for the capital letters, I can read just fine. And since when is God just to do with Christianity? For your information God is everyone’s God from every religion. I’m Hindu and I have my own Gods. It doesn’t necessarily mean Christianity when I say God. If I would have said Jesus, I would apologise, but your comment here is in fact more offensive then my comment was (if my comment is offensive, which I don’t think it is). Christianity is not the only religion, this is something you have failed to understand. And why don’t you chill out, it was just a joke. A joke. Nothing more. Not something to be taken seriously and to start comparing whether Bill Condon is a higher power. It was said in the context that Bill Condon did a great job with the movie. Sheesh.

I would move from Australia and become a US citizen if that happened! Imagine the crazy laws they would come up with! And Rob’s presidential speeches. LOL.

  • Curtiecue

NO. that is not acceptable. Bella is ;) not Kristen

I think the movie is great as is. I think the honeymoon scenes were well done, as were the birth scenes. The only thing that really pisses me off, is that we didn’t get all the hostility between Jacob and Rosalie in there. I’d KILL to have seen the part where she makes him (Jacob) a dog bowl, and he chucks it at her head.

Gosh, I thought I was the only one who noticed that – or thought I was mistaken!!! He’s on a sunny, tropical island for cripes sake, and no sparkling!? That WAS odd.

  • MeadowLupine

As I’ve said in other places, he DID sparkle! I know because I was watching like a hawk for continuity’s sake. At the top of the waterfall he sparkles when the sun hits his shoulder. All the other times they were either inside, under trees, or the sky was overcast. Don’t worry, they didn’t flub this up!

    LOVED THE IMPRINTING SCENE!!

    Thats how I felt, too.

    Loved those scene’s, so sweet.

  • MeadowLupine

I really didn’t like it that he yelled at her and left her alone, and I really, really don’t see that fitting Edward’s character, *at all*. This is one of my biggest complaints with the movie. I loved the movie so much in many ways, especially for what Bill Condon and Kristen Stewart brought to it, but did not like this section of the film at all. Edward would have *never, never, never* left his dying Bella alone, even if he disagreed with her. He would have pleaded with her, yes, but YELL at her and abandon her? No effing way.

  • MeadowLupine

Right there with you, Nana. I also have yearned my whole life for a partner with deep character, principals, respect, and enduring, devoted love. I’m able to offer that to someone who would offer that to me, so why oh why is it so hard to find? And I hear you on the “no ghosts in the closets” part, too. It would be so wonderful to start over again with my life and find someone like this. I’d endure so much to have them. I’m a very progressive woman, but I think progressives and conservatives alike can appreciate principals and enduring love. I just wish there was more of it in the world for *all* of us. I wish I lived in a time when marriage/commitment really meant something, and treating each other well (as equals, with respect, with compassion) did too. Maybe that’s why so many of us are drawn to these books, and why there are so many older fans (I’m in my mid-30s, personally). Maybe we yearn for love like this, and we happen to live in a time when it’s so so hard to find. Maybe many of us have been deeply hurt by people who for whatever reason didn’t cherish us the way Edward cherishes Bella. I know I have. Just wanted to let you know I hear you on your “happy place.” I think it was my girlhood dream to have love, equality, respect and so many other things in my life someday. I hope someday I can find that, and I wish the same for you all and hope that for those of us who don’t find it, at least living vicariously through Bella brings us a little happiness.

  • MeadowLupine

Heck, I’ll say it too, Bill Condon is God! And by that I mean that I deeply respect him and thank him for the sensitive, beautiful work he did on this film. It helps me connect deeper to my heart, my spirituality, my sense of love, so hey, why not associate Bill with something spiritual? Heh, but the comment was meant as words of kindness and I don’t understand how someone can take offense to it unless they’ve got they’re judgment cap on *real* tight. And I’m totally with you, my friend vanquish, in saying that not all of us have the same meaning for the word God. I know I don’t mean the Christian God when I say that, and *I’m* offended by someone making assumptions about what I’m saying and telling me I’m doing something wrong by just trying to offer appreciation and thanks.

  • MeadowLupine

    They *had* to have been…

  • MeadowLupine

Also a Northwesterner, and I don’t think these demographics are accurate. They only say who reads the books *and* are a member of that site.

  • kristahaha

Ok, I noticed that split second of a “sparkle” too but wasn’t sure if that was meant to be intentional (sparkle) or not (water/sun reflection). I think it was somewhat of a cop-out on their part though. It definately should have been more obvious.

  • Rkswight

I so agree. That was my discussion after the movie with my friends.

  • Blondiesyd3930

    where do i watch online??????

  • MeadowLupine

I agree, krista, I think they should have had some glorious moments of Edward relishing being himself fully in the sun, and Bella gazing at his beauty. I mean, this is why they have a *private* island, right? He can actually have his time in the sun for once, so let’s see some sparkle!! Not just a glimmer!

Happy Thanksgiving Miranda……………I have been so busy.  Just wanted to say hi!!!

  • EdwardsNana

Ditto Gizzy.  I know the feeling.  It has been such an important part of my later years.  I met most of the characters at the BD premier.  If you can believe it…….they are even more grounded and nice in person.  I am a total Edward/Rob, Kristen/ Bella & Carlisle/Peter fan. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • EdwardsNana

OMG!!!  There are no words MeadowLupine.  I know what you are saying.  I was able to witness an unconditional love between two people, in my parents.  They met in high school.  Neither one ever truly looked at another person.  They were beautiful on the inside and out.  They loved together for 65 years………it wasn’t sex or lust…….I am sure they had the sex in the beginning of their love story.  They were both virgin’s when they married and neither ever  knew another person intimitely.  I too was a virgin bride. “That’s how I was raised, it was a different era.”   But “I get it”  I get why people are drawn to Edward.  He is truly fictional.  There is no such animal on this planet.  I hate to burst anyones bubbles……..but even Robert in all his wisdom, and I do mean wisdom…………..knows this to be true.  He even had trouble excepting the part of Edward, because he was embarrassed about the flawless Edward.  What Robert doesn’t know, this trait of his makes us love him all the more because he shows such humility, as does Edward.   Robert is more like Edward than he gives himself credit.  He and Kristen have brought Edward & Bella alive for us……they have brought them off the pages of the most beautiful love story I have ever read and put them into the hearts of so many of us, who desire to experience uncontidional love………..as shown by Bella/Kristen, towards Edward/Robert, not only in Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, but now with Edward and their unborn child in Breaking Dawn 1.  It seems that we have also watched these two talented acters fall in love on the screen, so we not only got our Edward & Bella fix, we got to see a true life, true love between two people grow.  What a gift they have given to us.  I know they want to keep what is theirs…..theirs, but the chemistry is pretty hard to hide.  So in the meantime.  I will live through their love for each other and once again go to my “happy place”  Thanks for your beautiful reply…….

HHAAA…too bad you have to be born in the United States to be President of the United States. But, from what I’ve gathered from videos and interviews, if he weren’t an actor, he would’ve gone into politics. He claims to have a very high political IQ. One of the many aspects I love about him :)

    thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;-)

  • Team Bella and Edward forever

Breaking Dawn was no doubt the most epic movie . I loved the scenes where Edward hears Renesmee and Bella and Edward are so happy together, the birth scene played so well especially Kristen as she portrayed Bella dead frozen and not moving  made me cry silent tears . It was such an emotional moment and then Edward just injecting the venom through her. The honeymoon was too short but it was nicely done as well as the wedding was the most perfect wedding i’ve ever attended to.
Bill Condon you did a great job.
Thank you and all the cast of Btreaking dawn especialy Kristen, Rob and Taylor
