Stephenie Meyer Speaks! On Getting Back to Writing, The Host Movie, Breaking Dawn 2, Austenland

The queen bee has spoken! Stephenie Meyer has posted massive updates on all of her current projects.

On Breaking Dawn 2:

Right now Breaking Dawn 2 is being edited and having special effects added. Still a ways to go with some very complicated effects; we’re doing some things we’ve never done before. I’ve gotten to see a few scenes so far, and everything is so cool. Bill Condon has such a gift. I was there, I saw everything get filmed, yet I’m still always surprised at how he’s able to put it together into something that is more than the sum of its parts.

I’m looking forward to the Breaking Dawn 1 DVD coming out this week. I actually have no idea what all is on it, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for some of my favorite scenes that didn’t make it into the movie.

I look forward to seeing some of you in the upcoming months as publicity for Breaking Dawn 2 starts up. It feels so weird to think it’s all coming to an end! Happy in some ways, depressing in others. The saddest part for me is that the next premiere is the last time I’ll get to see you guys all together. It’s something I always look forward to, even though it’s frenzied and I don’t really get a chance to talk to anybody. I’ll just tell myself that a couple of you will show up for The Host premiere so that I don’t get too depressed about finality and goodbyes. It’s been quite a ride, hasn’t it? Thanks for being there with me through all of this. It wouldn’t have been any fun without you. See, now I’m getting maudlin. Better call it quits before I start crying.

The Host begins filming this coming Monday the thirteenth, and I am so excited. It’s somewhat of a dream to have the creator and director of my favorite sci-fi film (Gattaca) helming this movie. I love the script he’s written, I love his beautiful vision, and I love working with him.

I also can’t say strongly enough how thrilled I am with our cast. The talent involved is unbelievable. We’ve been so blessed/lucky/kissed-by-fate all throughout the casting process. Wanda/Melanie is a very complicated role, and for a long time one of our biggest worries in the producer camp was finding an actress who could bring those two distinct personalities to life. And then Saoirse came along and we all quit worrying. If you’ve never had the pleasure of watching her act, I highly recommend her recent release, Hanna. Actually, watch her in anything she’s done and you’ll see what I mean. After Saoirse joined us, amazing actor after amazing actor signed on until none of us could believe our good fortune. Just the other day I got to meet William Hurt (!!) in full Jeb beard and hair, and it kind of choked me up. He looks amazing—they all look amazing!—and I can’t wait to see them in action next week.

Have you ever read a book and thought to yourself, “This would be a great movie! I would love to see a movie of this story”?

That is exactly how Austenland the movie got started for me. My good pal Shannon sent me her first adult novel (by which I mean not written for children; sometimes people misunderstand that description), and I loved it. It was funny and romantic and I could see it all so clearly. What a great movie it would be. Shannon and I talked about how much fun it would be to take a video camera to England and film it ourselves, possibly using sock puppets for actors. We agreed that we would do so in ten years.

And then the lovely Jerusha Hess called Shannon to talk about directing a screen adaptation of one of her novels, and one thing led to another. And so, as some of you already knew, I’ve spent the last many months working on a little indie film called Austenland, based on the novel by Shannon Hale. It’s really something to be intimately involved with a movie from the conception on through the filming and editing, and quite an education, too, with still more to learn as we get into post production now. Working with an author, rather than being the author, was a fun change. It helped that the author in question was my bestie.

So the busyness will not be ending anytime soon with all three projects currently ongoing. I’m hoping to get a little writing done at the same time, but writing on set has proved an elusive goal for me in the past year. I’m looking forward to this May, when I will officially be home for good and back here at my computer where I like to be best.

OMGoodness, Stephenie is quite beautiful.   Never really notice it before. No hint of what she’ll be writing then? ^-^

i cant wait for the host i loved that book

  • Joann

I hear rumors of a Twilight Saga  No.6
    any chance that s True??

  • Hannah

    YES YES
    YES! Saoirse
Ronan as Wanda will be awesome. She’s so lovely and acts in such challenging
films..Finally an actress with more talent and depth then the choice for
    Twilight.

God I hope she go on writing midnight sun. I loved the
    draft so much.

write another twilight book you lazy witch

Even Stephenie wanted deleted scenes…Come on Summit, I am SOOOO DISAPPOINTED that there were no deleted or extended scenes on the dvd. WHY???

  • Anonymous

Oh my goodness, that is so rude to say. Don’t you know the last Twilight book was already written. There will be no more Twilight books no matter how much you wish and prayer for it. Find another series to indulge yourself in or read some post-Breaking Dawn fan-fiction. Here is a link to one of the written on the internet so far and its completed.

If you mean another movie, then no, unless Stephenie writes another Twilight book and, let’s be honest, I don’t think she’ll be doing one… -__-”

  • Animalsgreatandsmallpetcare

    Hasn’t anyone thought midnight sun!!

  • BreakingDawnFan

I would like for her to finish Midnight Sun as well. As a male Twilight fan It felt good to read the story from Edwards perspective. I wouldn’t mind if she retold all of the stories from Edwards perspective. I’d really like to know how he handled the departure in New Moon.

  • Monique/booksaddicted

Mmmm… I didn’t , since she had said that she was down with Vampire for the time being.  Maybe she will go back sometime in the future.

  • Twiheart

    So not cool!!

  • Twiheart

My biggest and most impossible dream!!  The whole Saga in Edward’s viewpoint.  It would be an even bigger best seller than the Twilight Saga.  So much of his life we miss, seeing it all through Bella.   I guess for now I would be happy to get Midnight Sun completed.

My friend,  well said…. but this still doesn’t presently answer the question we are all wondering about another Book in the SAGA:))

  • BreakingDawnFan

It is said that LionsGate/Summit would like to continue the franchise if Stephanie Meyers writes another book. I personally wouldn’t mind if she continued to write the series. However I don’t need to see another film after this last one. After New Moon the movies lost the indie feel that they had to them. They started missing key elements and played with the characters looks too much for it to remain authentic.

  • Anonymous

Sorry that you feel that way…. We all know that not everyone can be happy, with a movie or the way its made… and that know matter what key elements are left out not everyone will be happy…. I have been down this road over the past 4 books with others here on this site,  that feel the same way… My statement was in regards to the fact that she has a big part of Midnight Sun written and many of us would like to see it finished, however she herself has said that she is not ready to do that…. as yet… I think that I would have to agree with her, when someone whom you think is a friend that you trust takes and  posts your unfinished work for public reading that would hurt beyond belief to go back and finish a piece that you put your heart and soul into.  I only hope that the rumors are true and she is working on something, perhaps Alice and Jasper story along with more information about the Cullens and how they all came together, filling in the missing pieces along the way.

  • Twiheart

Hi, LG.    I think the series has ended as it should, but I would always read anything she might write in regard to this family….I just can’t get enough.

However, I agree with Breaking Dawn Fan below, that there should be no more movies, even if more sequels are written.   No one can replace Kristen and Rob, and they would be beyond the point of being “ageless” in subsequent filming. Let’s remember them as we last see them in the conclusion of Breaking Dawn.

  • Hotpinklnk

I really want her to write about Nessie and Jacob. I want to read about Nessie all grown up, her life as a hybrid, and Jacob and her developing romantic feelings for each other once she reaches adulthood.

  • Tomas

    PLEASE FINISH MIDNIGHT SUN STEPHENIE!!!

  • Mrskellyking

I really hope Stephenie finishes Midnight Sun – and maybe even the other books from Edwards’ perspective. The start of Midnight Sun is brilliant and should definitely be completed and released – such a great way to have Edwards’ viewpoint – come on Stephenie, so it for your fans :-)

  • Mrskellyking

*do* not so it for your dans – sorry!

  • Anonymous

Agreed. I want to see how they deal with the idea of having children. If the point of imprinting is to create stronger wolves, then that will be a big issue. She’s only going to have a small time frame before she freezes in time and loses her fertility- I want to be able to get in her head. Will she WANT to have kids or do they want it to just be the two of them forever? Will they have twins or triplets to satisfy having multiple kids in a small time frame? What will their children be like?

  • M_Liss_RN

I was very disappointed as well that Summit cheated all of us in seeing the deleted scenes. I would love to have the deleated scenes from all of the movies actually. I am hoping that Stephanie will finish Edward’s story, or write a story around Jacob and Renesme.

Hi TH, I agree, if SM did bless us with more of the saga, I would not accept other actors portraying these characters than our beloved cast.

  • Anonymous

That certainly isn’t the way to get SM to finish MS, with a rude comment like that. Its just the opposite of helpful.

  • bluebird

Looking forward to MIDNIGHT SUN!!! ROBERT PATTINSON side of the story!

  • Robsessed_Twerd

i am agreeing with most of u here: y no deleted scenes?

  • Robsessed_Twerd

I am sorry but i cannot agree with that line.
Finally an actress with more talent and depth then the choice forTwilight.nope. i am sorry. not happy

  • Andrea

Wow! as much as I love Stephenie Meyer and all that she has given to us through her lovely books and the beloved movies, I have found the above statement strangely manipulative and ( I can’t believe I am going to say this) desperate.  Here is the quote that I am having trouble with…”The saddest part for me is that the next premiere is the last time I’ll get to see you guys all together. It’s something I always look forward to, even though it’s frenzied and I don’t really get a chance to talk to anybody. I’ll just tell myself that a couple of you will show up for The Host premiere so that I don’t get too depressed about finality and goodbyes.”  WHAT??? ANY COMMENTS from other “TWIHARDS?”

    It has been

  • Hannah

Well, Saoirse Ronan is still so young and had even in the small amount of movies such a wide range of experience. I’m thinking of ‘The lovely Bones’ and ‘Hanna’.
Kristen on the other hand, had allot of experience as well, but seems unable of “acting” to be different person. For me she plays herself over and over in different situation, always with a depressed expression, mouth open, a week character, blinking the crab out of her and most of the time with a sullen attitude. Even my boyfriend noticed that.
Certainly I have to admit that she played very well in breaking dawn. But being honest, she couldn’t possible behave like a brat during a weeding or at the honeymoon. ;-)
Can’t help it, it’s just the way I think about it. Your happiness shouldn’t depend on other’s people opinion ;-)

  • Robsessed_Twerd

yeah, its ok. I still don’t agree but i shouldn’t b so mean. sorry

  • Ryatia

Kristen Stewart has no depth, no emotion and no talent. Thus the reason she is portraying Bella Swan who is equally as thus.  To simply disagree shows your ignorance because it is a fact, not something to be disputed.  Good luck living in your own little delusional world, I’ll be living in reality.

  • Hannah

No need to apologize, there was nothing mean about your comment. Everybody thinks different about her and I’m okay with that. :-)

  • Kaitlyn Carr

Stephenie I’m also sad that The Twilight Saga is coming to an end I loved them. But I so can’t wait to see The Host.

  • Moi40

Would be nice if true.   I’d be very interested in that set

  • http://twitter.com/LEESKA123 Lee Staal

As much as I would love for SM to finish MS, I had to face the facts, that if after so many years and still up set for the leak, well lets face it SM will never finish it. One thing can be said, she sure can hold a grudge. So sad. :(

  • cld

     You mean Edwards side???

  • cld

Some people !! What is wrong with you????

  • judybradley

Andrea – I didn’t like that statement about the Host premiere either, but I just thought maybe it was because I couldn’t stand that book.

  • VampedUp

Thanks, Stephanie.  What a ride you’ve given us.  Of course, it would great to see Midnight Sun completed.  And how fun it would be to have a Pre-Twilight story(ies) about the Cullen’s.  Especially Carlisle.   And, can’t wait for The Host!

  • Joeycabrera57

I hope she finishes midnight sun or writes a new twilight book when she comes home. And by the way im so dicapointed that summit sold twilight to lionsgate:(

  • Twilightjacob54

Thats so true why doesnt she jus write more twilight books!

  • Maggie

Agree with you whole-heartedly Hannah!  KS always plays her roles the same.  My hubs has read all the books as I have, but he did not want to see the movies because of her lacklust acting.  She did not “sink her teeth” into the role of Bella at all as SM wrote  in her books. :)   Please don’t  hate on me, just giving my two-cents like anyone else here.  I look forward to seeing BD Part 2 very much! :)

  • Larimerlexine39

I think a novel series about Renesmee would be a great addition to the Twilight Saga….

  • Skylar

Honsty edward is hot but can not bet ghost hunters  ok. I mean the movies are great
but they shoud just go head and kill bella and jacob thouse are the ones  I hate of all
Ghost Huters do better than that.. ILU

  • skylar

ok you are wird .. LOL

  • Becky

So cool to see that you are friends with Shannon Hale – we are big fans of her Goose Girl series and hope to see that made into movies – maybe you have some pull?!

  • KMD

Just seen breaking dawn part 1. Was disappointed, not as edgie or cool as the previous ones, has lost the essence of the vampires. Think it should have been directed by Catherine Hardwicke like the previous ones.
Would love to see midnight sun finished too, but not into a film, Rob would be too old and another actor would not be the same.

  • twilight bestfan

i want to know when the breaking dwn part 2 wll be in the cinema`s please sombody tell me:((((((((
