NEW ‘Breaking Dawn Part 1′ SPIN VFX Behind the Scenes Video & Interview

Check out the behind the green screen video of Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 from SPIN VFX.  VERY COOL!   The Art of VFX also interviewed SPIN VFX producer George Marci, supervisor Jeff Campbell, compositing sequence supervisor Kirk Brillon, and compositing supervisor Eric Doiron.

What have you done on this show?
Jeff Campbell – VFX Supervisor // SPIN’s primary contribution on this film was to add the backgrounds to all the sound stage green screen windows on the main set of the Cullen House. With no actual glass in the windows of the set, many shots required the addition of room reflections and/or character reflections. Both character and room reflection elements were created entirely in CG and animated to match their live action counterpart. We had 600 shots to do in a few months.

How did you manage the different reflections?
Eric Doiron – Compositing Supervisor // There was a wide shot of Bella surrounded by medical equipment. The room featured large windows on two sides, which meant that we had to assemble a wide background environment. Production had shot extensive exterior tiles surrounding the Cullen House from every possible angle and at different times of the day. We modeled all of the interior furniture and created digital doubles for Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson for use as reflection objects. These were carefully animated to match the actions of their real life counterparts. Finally, the interior room environment was reflected from HDRI images of the set. In the end all of the pieces came together seamlessly for a completely believable shot.

    OMG just saw in another site, with a video from ET showing the seating order for the awards….and Rob is next to Kristen…and i think it’s Taylor next to Kristen…his picture is hidden a bit by the angle..but it’s them!! It’s them! Hope the trio are actually going to be there together!! But haha Betty White will still be awesome…she might smack one on him.

    Well, actually it worked out perfectly for me. BD2 comes out this November; and in November I will be about 3 months into my freshmen year of college (i’m a senior in high school right now), so it’s kind of like a new beginning for me. Starting college, and then BD2 comes out a short while later, and it’s kind of like moving on :( it’s hard to say that, but at least I have a transition going into it..although, I would totally jump back in if Stephenie Meyer finished Midnight Sun!!

    This is super random but I have a question guys. I am looking up the characters in the Twilight Wiki, and I just want to know that if the character’s biographies are accurate. I know some of it is mentioned in the books, but I can tell some of this information is not even in the book. I was reading Alice’s early life, and I noticed that some of this information is not mentioned in the books. Can you guys help me out?

    My life is quite hectic as well, however these movies/books were such a nice diversion. Wish she would finish Midnight Sun, and I also wish she’d continue the story of Jacob and Renesmee. :)

    I don’t think so anymore….it’s been said it was placed that way for a skit or smth….and Kristen’s people said she won’t be attending or by a ‘source close to her’. But Taylor should be…he was nominated right? Rob will be there.

    Ugh….this site is very sad these days!  No new info/pictures or updates on anyone anymore…I check this site frequently in hopes that there will finally be something new but no luck.  Again…Sad :(

    Haha that’s how the first Twilight was for me. I had just finished high school here in Australia in November 2008 and Twilight came out then..and I was starting University the following year in March. So when Twilight came out it was kind of a new beginning for me! But this time for you it’ll be like moving on. :( I just graduated from university last year…and will start a full time graduate job in a few months…it already feels like moving on…like they’re not filming BD anymore! But when BD comes out…gahh…I don’t think I can handle it. I’m sure we’ll see these guys in other projects…but it’s the last Twilight movie!!! It’s nice to see that fellow twi-hards have these sentimental moments as well. When we look back at this 10 years from now…we’ll be able to remember it as part of different stages of our lives. For me it feels like growing up with the Twilight cast in particular Kristen and Taylor since I’m 20.
