Welcome to the BreakingDawnMovie.org’s Community Re-read!

While we impatiently wait for Breaking Dawn Part 1 to be released, we continue with our highly-popular, Community Re-Read!

Every Tuesday & Friday, I’ll post a breakdown for each chapter in the book, counting down the days until the official release of the film on November 18th. Let’s get started, dig out your copy of Breaking Dawn, read the chapters together with us, and discuss anything you may find of interest that you might have missed the first or twentieth time around. Let’s continue our journey into FOREVER.

Chapter 6: Distractions

“I knew what was going on. He was trying to keep me busy, distracted, so that I wouldn’t continue badgering him about the sex thing. Whenever I tried to talk him into taking it easy with one of the million DVD’s under the big-screen plasma TV, he would lure me out of the house with magic words like coral reefs and submerged caves and sea turtles. We were going, going, going all day, so that I found myself completely famished and exhausted when the sun eventually set.”

This chapter is relatively short compared to the others, so we will highlight some of the great parts and sort through all the numerous clues that the Cullen’s drop throughout this chapter. We catch up with the couple and their extreme sightseeing and vacation activities lol. Edward refuses to have sex with Bella until she is made immortal and he is using every distraction he can find.

Pg. 100-103 Exhaustion didn’t help much with my attempts at persuasion. But I didn’t give up. I tried reasoning, pleading, and grouching, all to no avail. I was usually unconscious before I could really press my case far. And then my dreams felt so real-nightmares mostly, made more vivid, I guessed, by the too-bright colors of the island-that I woke up tired no matter how long I slept. After about a week or so after we’d gotten to the island, I decided to compromise. It had worked in the past. I’d taken to wearing some of Alice’s lingerie collection to sleep in at night-which weren’t so revealing compared to the scanty bikinis she’d packed for me when it came right down to it.  I pulled out one of the scarier pieces as I got ready in the paneled bathroom. It was black, lacy, and embarrassing to look at even when it wasn’t on. I was careful not to look in the mirror before I went back to the bedroom. I didn’t want to loose my nerve. I had the satisfaction of watching his eyes pop open wide for just a second before he controlled his expression. “What do you think?” I asked, pirouetting so that he could see every angle. He cleared his throat. “You look beautiful. You always do.” “Thanks.” I said a bit sourly. “I’ll make you a deal.” “I will not make any deals with you,” he answered. “You haven’t even heard what I’m offering.” “It doesn’t matter.” I sighed. “Dang it. And I really wanted…Oh well.” He rolled his eyes. I closed mine and let the bait sit there. I yawned. It only took a minute-not long enough for me to zonk out. “All right. What is it you want?” “Well, I was thinking…I know that the whole Dartmouth thing was supposed to be a cover story, but honestly, one semester of college probably wouldn’t kill me. Charlie would get a thrill out of Dartmouth stories, I bet.” “You would wait. You would stay human. Why are you doing this to me?” he said suddenly angry. “Isn’t it hard enough without all of this?” He grabbed a handful of lace that was ruffled on my thigh. For a moment, I thought he was going to rip it from the seam. “It doesn’t matter. I won’t make any deals with you.” “I want to go to college.” “You are making me insane, Bella. Haven’t we had this argument a million times, you always begging to be a vampire without delay?” “Yes, but…well, I have a reason to be human that I didn’t have before.” “What’s that?” “Guess,” I said, and dragged myself off the pillows to kiss him.   *Timeout- ok I have to come up for air. I don’t know about y’all but Bella the seductress is making my stomach uneasy LMAO! This is going to make me uncomfortable in my seat at the theater IF Melissa Rosenburg even gives us this part..grrrr. I must say our girl is definitely trying with the lingerieish lingerie lol.

Pg. 105-108 *Bella looses her fight and goes to sleep, but then is awakened by another mysterious dream.   Later, when I awoke in the dark, it was with shock. The dream had been so very real…so vivid, so sensory…I gasped aloud, now, disoriented by the dark room. “Bella?” Edward whispered, his arms tight around me, shaking me gently. “Are you all right, sweetheart?” “Oh,” I gasped again. Just a dream. Not real. To my utter astonishment, tears overflowed from my eyes without warning, gushing down my face. “Bella!” he said-louder, alarmed now. “What’s wrong?” “It was only a dream.”  I couldn’t contain the low sob that broke in my voice. “It’s okay, love, you’re fine. I’m here.” He rocked me back and forth. “Did you have another nightmare? It wasn’t real, it wasn’t real.” “Not a nightmare. It was a good dream.” My voice broke again. “Then why are you crying?” “Because I woke up,” I wailed, wrapping my eyes around his neck in a chokehold and sobbing into his throat. “Tell me about it. Maybe that will help.” But I couldn’t. Instead I clutched my arms around his neck again and locked my mouth with his feverishly. He struggled with me as gently as he could in his surprise, holding me away, grasping my shoulders. “No, Bella,” he insisted, looking at me as if he worried that I’d lost my mind. My arms dropped, defeated, the bizarre tears spilling in a fresh torrent down my face, a new sob rising in my throat. He was right-I must be crazy. He stared at me with confused, anguished eyes. “I’m s-s-s-orry.” I mumbled. But then he pulled me to him, then hugging me tightly to his marble chest. “I can’t, Bella, I can’t!” “Please, please, Edward?” I couldn’t tell if he was moved by the tears trembling in my voice, or if he was unprepared to deal with the suddenness of my attack, or if his need was simply as unbearable in that moment as my own. But whatever the reason, he pulled my lips back to his, surrendering with a groan. And be began where my dream had left off.  *Bella! You hussy you!! I love it!

Pg. 108-110    I stayed very still when I woke up in the morning and tried to keep my breathing even. I was afraid to open my eyes. I was lying across Edward’s chest, but he was very still and his arms were not wrapped around me. That was a bad sign. Carefully, I peeked through my eyelashes. He was staring up at the dark ceiling, his arms behind his head. “How much trouble am I in?” I asked in a small voice. “Heaps,” he said but turned his head and smirked at me. I breathed a sigh of relief. “I am sorry. I didn’t mean…well I don’t know exactly what that was last night.” “You never did tell me what your dream was about.” “I guess I didn’t but I sort of showed you what it was about.” “Oh, interesting.” “Am I forgiven?” “I’m thinking about it.” I sat up; planning to examine myself-there didn’t seem to be any feathers, at least. But as I moved, an odd wave of vertigo hit. I swayed and fell back against the pillows. “Whoa…head rush.” His arms were around me then. “You slept for a long time. Twelve hours.” “Twelve?”  I gave myself a quick once-over while I spoke, trying to be inconspicuous about it. I looked fine. “Is the inventory complete?” I nodded sheepishly. “The pillows all appear to have survived.” “Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for your, er, nightgown.”  He nodded toward the foot of the bed, where several scraps of black lace were strewn across the silk sheets. “That’s too bad, I liked that one.” “I did, too.” “Were there any other casualties?” “I’ll have to buy Esme a new bed frame.” I followed his gaze and was shocked to see that large chunks of wood had apparently been gouged from the left side of the headboard. “Hmm, you’d think I would have heard that.” “You seem to be extraordinarily unobservant when your attention is otherwise involved. How are you feeling?” He laughed. “What?” I demanded. “You look so guilty-like you’ve committed a crime.” I feel guilty.” “So you seduced you all-too-willing husband. That not a capital offense.” “You’re not angry?” “I’m not angry.” “Why not?” “Well…I didn’t hurt you, for one thing. It was easier this time, to control myself, to channel the excess. Maybe because I had a better idea of what to expect.” A hopeful smile started to spread across my face. “I told you that it was all about practice.” My stomach growled and he laughed. “Breakfast time for the human?” “Please,”   I said hopping out of bed. I moved too quickly, though and had to stagger drunkenly to regain my balance. He caught me before I could stumble into the dresser. “Are you all right?” “If I don’t have a better sense of equilibrium in my next life, I’m demanding a refund.”

Pg. 113-117 *This chapter ends with some great clues and some interesting visitors. After Bella cooks her breakfast the two talk about their plans. Surprisingly, Bella informs Edward that she is in no rush to become immortal and wishes to stay human for a little while longer and actually go to college. Edward is beyond excited even though Bella only is doing this because she wants a little bit of human sexual gratification before becoming a vampire. Bella begins planning their life together, but Edward has already purchased a home for them…cute. Edward suggests they visit Charlie before moving to New Hampshire and then spend Christmas with Renee.  The cleaning crew has arrived and Bella decides to stay inside for the day watching movies with Edward.       I wandered over to the shelves under the big TV and started scanning through the titles. They had more DVD’s than a rental store. I could hear Edward’s low, velvet voice as he came back down the hall, conversing fluidly in what I assumed was Portuguese. Another, harsher, human voice answered in the same tongue. Edward led them into the room, pointing toward the kitchen on his way. The two Brazilians looked incredibly short and dark next to him. Edward gestured to me with a proud smile, and I heard my name mixed in with a flurry of unfamiliar words. The little man smiled at me politely. But the tiny coffee-skinned woman didn’t smile. She stared at me with a mixture of shock, worry, and most of all, wide-eyed fear. Before I could react, Edward motioned for them to follow him toward the chicken coop, and they were gone. When he reappeared, he was alone. He walked swiftly to my side and wrapped his arms around me. “What’s with her?” “Kaure’s part Ticuna Indian. She was raised to be more superstitious-or you could call it more aware-than those who live in the modern world. She suspects what I am, or close enough. They have their own legends here. The Libishomen-a blood-drinking demon who preys exclusively on beautiful women.” He leered at me. “She looked terrified.” I said. “She is-but mostly she’s worried about you.” “Me?” “She’s afraid of why I have you here, all alone.” He chuckled darkly and then looked toward the wall of movies. “Oh well, why don’t you choose something for us to watch? That’s an acceptably human thing to do.” “Yes, I’m sure a movie will convince her that you’re human.” I laughed and clasped my arms securely around his neck, stretching up on my tiptoes. He leaned down so that I could kiss him, and then his arms tightened around me, lifting me off the floor so he didn’t have to bend. “Movie, schmovie.” I muttered as his lips moved down my throat, twisting my fingers in his bronze hair. Then I heard a gasp, and he put me down abruptly. Kaure stood frozen in the hallway, feathers in her black hair, a large sack of more feathers in her arms, an expression of horror on her face. She stared at me, her eyes bugging out, as I blushed and looked down. Then she recovered herself and murmured something that, even in an unfamiliar language was clearly an apology. Edward smiled and answered in a friendly tone. She turned her dark eyes and continued down the hall. “She was thinking what I think she was thinking, wasn’t she?” “Yes.” “Here, put this on and we can pretend to watch it.” It was an old musical with smiling faces and fluffy dresses on the front. “Very honeymoonish.” Edward approved. I lolled on the sofa, snuggled into Edward’s arms. Gustavo and Kaure moved quietly through the house while I waited impatiently for them to finish and tried to pay attention to the happily-ever-after on the screen. I’d slept half the day-when a rough voice startled me. Edward sat up, keeping me cradled against him, and answered Gustavo in flowing Portuguese. Gustavo nodded and walked quietly toward the front door. “They’re finished,” Edward told me. “So does that mean we’re alone now?” “How about lunch first.” I was pretty hungry. With a smile, he took my hand and led me to the kitchen. “This is getting out of hand,”  I complained when I finally felt full. “Do you want to swim with the dolphins-burn off the calories?” “Maybe later. I had another idea for burning calories.” “And what was that?” “Well, there’s an awful lot of headboard left-“  But I didn’t finish. He’d already swept me up into his arms, and his lips silenced mine as he carried me with inhuman speed to the blue room.

*Hey hey now! Bella’s about to get her groove on…knockin’boots even, lol. This is hilarious, our little engine that could is groovin’ with her hot husband! Sooo how steamy was this chapter? I hope the cleaning crew are in the movie, I hope it’s real intense too. Soo did Bella’s mood swings give you any clues the first time you read this book? All the eating, sleeping and crazy behavior…hmmmm.

We have discussed all the other movies post movie viewing.. and of course the re-reads we did of late, over at nm and eclipse…… and we will be reading BD even after we see the first part of the movie.. Isn’t that correct Mrs EC….
Hi Twiheart, how are you? Hope you are good…

I think I saw that isn’t that about a little boy, who becomes a pianist?

  • Anonymous

Nana I have to admit, I am right there with Bella, I have lived, it lol…… I remember my first time so vividly in my mind it just brings back being 19-20 all over again, total bliss, love it.
Between this chapter and our last its too hot to handle anymore… but I am sure I will think of something…

Jite4, enjoyed your post.  There is no good reason why they can’t show us the scene with Bella crying and begging Edward to love her.   It had better be in there!

  • Anonymous

Ok you know my theory from the last chapter, so consequently Edward eventually gives in because he can not stand to see Bella upset, and I think that part of the temption is now gone and once again Edward has been changed.   Poor Bella and her sex dream how many time’s has this happened to one of us? opps… and Edward so afraid to let himself go, and enjoy himself. He keeps expressing his remorse and his fears of hurting Bella.

I give Bella a lot of credit in this chapter the little vixen, seducing her husband. Alice knows Bella as well as Bella knows herself they truly are sisters.. and I think that Alice knows Edward very well too…. and that is probable why she packed the sexiness in the suitcase herself… along with the fact that Edward didn’t want Bella to know where they were going. Bella for sure would have packed those old sweats and tank tops…   Smart girl…

When I first read the book my first time I zoomed threw it so quickly I missed alot of things and the fact that Bella was always tired and hungry I attributed to the fact that Edward was keeping her busy so she would fall sleep. But the second reading I caught it right away, I knew she was preganant or suspected it. ( I find that when you read something so quickly you can miss the point very easily, and I did.)  I still chuckle and smile to myself when I read these  last two chapters, they were so happy.

I always wonder what Edward does while Bella is sleeping next to him.  Is he reading, or just shut down? Does anyone else wonder that?  These last two chapters are just very sensual and done in such a classy way. Kudos to SM… and I do hope that this is in the movie… (e news, KS was on and she said that it seems every page of the book is in the movie) .

LG, I wonder what Edward was doing let alone thinking while Bella was sleeping for 12 hrs. What misery he must have been feeling…too bad we didnt get his POV.

I thought the movie was Meet me to St Louis.

As I am reading down through the comments and getting towards the end I am seeing that we are bashing MR again…. Sorry this really bothers me.  1. She is not the only one who has been involved with the script writing and everyone seems to forget that, Bill Condon admitted that he was involved in the script writing for Breaking Dawn… 2. MR doesn’t have full control over the script she writes it and then is told what needs to be kept deleted ect, there are many other people involved besides her.  So, It really isn’t fair to blame her for something that we haven’t seen yet,  and she doesn’t have complete control over it all the time…..     Stephanie had a great deal to do with this script too.  We all seem to forget she was a producer and I am sure a writer consultant on all the movies.  Yes, we are not all going to be pleased but remember that you can not always place the blame on one person….I believe that Stephanie has felt that the movie is how she wants it.

I hope shes right, I want everything from the book in the movie.

At least Edward was happy at this point, while he watched Bella sleep. He didn’t hurt her this time.

You go twigrandma, I’m there with you.

I’m not sure. Is there on called In The Summertime? I do hope they show, when Kaure comes in and see’s Edward is kissing Bella. I want to see that.

Sweet! I like the way you think Twiheart.

Right, But who knows what his sex life is gonna be like LOL I’m sure he’ll be cool (was that wrong) LOL LOL

  • Anonymous

She added the dream catcher cause she took him kidnapping Bella from school out along with a bunch of other Jacob & Bella moments so I don’t see it that way

  • Anonymous

Right because I don’t know any humans that have sex as much as these two did after she was turned LOL

I’ve gotta stop being so late to these!!

My first time reading this, I had no clue what was going on with Bella.  I never would have guessed she was pregnant, & after only 1 time!  (Good job Edwards little swimmers, lol)
Eating, dreaming & exhaustion, extreme hornyness, seems obvious now.

I really hope we get to see them have fun on their honeymoon.
I love how well they know each other;  him reading her face almost as well as he reads minds & Bella knowing that Edward can’t resist her when she says she wants something.

This was good for them & I’m glad they had this time before things get crazy again.

I agree, lovinggrandmother, I used to blame MR for the things I didn’t like about the Twilight script until I read about how she had to crank it out in a very short time.  No one person gets the blame for things that are less than perfect.  I also don’t like when folks bash Summit.  Of course they are producing the movie to make money, but they respected the book enough to make some pretty good movies that fans of the books can love.

  • Anonymous

LG, I think Edward thinks about lots of things, but I think he mostly thinks about Bella while he watches her sleep.  Sometimes he thinks about right and wrong, ouch!  I think that he also composes music while Bella is sleeping.  But this time he thinks about how great it was and that he didn’t hurt her. :)

Like TEB4e, I really hope Kristen is right.

  • Anonymous

At first I didn’t like Bella showing Edward her mind, but now I love it.  I have also come to terms with the anti-climatic end, and I love it.  I couldn’t have read this book 12-going on- 13 times if one of the Cullens had died.

  • ifonly2011

Thanks…..will check August Rush out :) sounds good!

  • ifonly2011

    Excellent!

  • ifonly2011

I like to think he’s just chilling, watching her sleep…always protecting her….

  • ifonly2011

I agree lovinggrandmother, no one person is too blame for any one mistake in a movie. I like to think Stephanie Meyer wouldn’t let anything go to release without thinking it couldn’t have been written better for her movie! Although I could be entirely wrong! But surely they must have the fans in mind when adapting the script….they’re the ones who go see it over and over…..I’ll be seeing bd part 1 a few times at least!

  • Anonymous

    I like your music theory…..

  • Lu :)SPIDERFLIPPY&LIZZYMsBLING

She took out the kidnapping scene but put in bella leaving edward looking like a fool on his own and shouting at him.. She’s said ‘I love you’ to Jake more times than she has said it to edward..
Look, it’s really stupid to argue about this, it’s just my opinion and it’s not going to change..

Yes, to answer your question… All though there is always new Avi’s and names popping up all the time.  I have been here since almost the very beginnning, first reading comments and then started voicing my comments.  This is my morning coffee routine. I also have been through all the re reads too, first and most recently second time…. leading up to our new re-read of breaking dawn thanks so much MrsEC.

  • Twiheart

Hi LG, doing better last couple days, thank you.   I loved your posts.  Yes, we will definately be expressing our thoughts on the movie, in some forum.

  • Twiheart

Basically, but more than that, LG. Without giving it away, the child is the product of a one-night stand of two people who met, instantly fell in love, but were parted the next morning by circumstances, never able to locate each other, and the infant parted from mother at birth from circumstances.  Raised in an orphanage, and the streets, he was gifted, always hearing music in his head and always having faith that he had a mother and father somewhere out there.  Tremendous and inspiring movie.

  • Team Robsten

According to Kristen Stewart…she said in an interview that “we didn’t miss a page…if you know what I mean…”They went page by page and got all of the important stuff in…Kristen was INSISTENT on it!!

  • Team Robsten

Bella has inspired me….I am typically very shy….but after reading this chapter….I, too, seduced my husband….it worked for me too!

  • jite4vanquish

I would love to Believe that the movie is going to be so much like the book. Let’s hope anyway.

  • jite4vanquish

Hi twiheart….hope to keep posting until BD 2 is out. And hopefully we will continue to post after the movie comes out. And by the way, we have the Hunger Games to talk about too if we want.

I hope so,but what MR thinks is important, isn’t always in line with what the fans think is important.

  • Anonymous

I’m going to keep an open mind, I want to love this movie. Its always harder to see a movie after reading the book, theres so many expectations going in.  I’m trying to remined myself that everything  I love about the book, may not be in there.
