Welcome to the BreakingDawnMovie.org’s Community Re-read!

While we impatiently wait for Breaking Dawn part 2 to be released, we continue with our highly-popular Community Re-Read!

Every Tuesday & Friday, I’ll post a breakdown for each chapter in the book, counting down the days until the official release of the film on November 16th. Let’s get started, dig out your copy of Breaking Dawn, read the chapters together with us, and discuss anything you may find of interest that you might have missed the first or twentieth time around. Let’s continue our journey into FOREVER.

Chapter 30: Irresistible

“Tanya skittered back four steps, her strawberry curls quivering, like a human confronted by a venomous snake. Kate jumped back all the way to the front door and braced herself against the wall there. A shocked hiss came from between her clenched teeth. Eleazar threw himself in front of Carmen in a protective crouch.”

With the majority of the Cullen clan either vanishing or out on tour, Bella, Edward, Renesmee and Jacob are left behind to do the dirty work…so to speak.

Pg. 572-582 The first few pages surround our little coven and all the drama that has taken place. Bella and Edward take a timeout after Renesmee has been put in her crib, and focus on each other…for the rest of the night. Jacob and the crew head back to the house the next morning. Edward goes into extreme detail about the Volturi since Bella has asked Edward to teach her how to fight. This is where Edward confesses he has a vendetta against Demetri, for Alice of course. If Demetri the world’s best tracker were out of the picture, then the entire Cullen clan would be free to run and Jasper and Alice wouldn’t be missing.

Pg. 583-585 As we wait impatiently for the first of many guests to arrive, little miss Renesmee speaks.   “What if they don’t like me?” she whispered, and all our eyes flashed to her face. “They don’t understand you, Renesmee, because they’ve never met anyone like you. Getting to understand is the problem.”  She sighed, and in my head flashed pictures of all of us in one quick burst. “You’re special, that’s not a bad thing.” She shook her head in disagreement. She thought of our strained faces and said, “This is my fault.” “No,” Jacob, Edward, and I all said at exactly the same time, but before we could argue further, we heard the sound we’d been waiting for. The car moved quickly through the woods, faster than Charlie or Sue drove. We heard it pull through the meadow and stop by the front porch. Four doors opened and closed. “Edward!” a female voice enthused. “Hello. Tanya. Kate. Eleazar, Carmen.” “Carlisle said he needed to talk to us right away. What’s the problem? Trouble with the werewolves?” Jacob rolled his eyes. “No,” Edward said. “Our truce with the werewolves is stronger than ever.” A woman chuckled. “Aren’t you going to invite us in?” Tanya asked. “Where’s Carlisle?” “Carlisle had to leave.” “What’s going on, Edward?” Tanya demanded. “I have something difficult to explain, and I’ll need you to be open-minded until you understand.” “Is Carlisle all right?” a male voice asked anxiously. Eleazar. “None of us is all right, Eleazar. But physically, Carlisle is fine.” “We’re listening,” Tanya finally said. “We will hear it all before we judge.” “Thank you, Tanya. We wouldn’t involve you in this if we had any other choice.” “Where’s your Bella? How is she?” “She’ll join us shortly. She’s well, thank you. She’s taken to immortality with amazing finesse.” “Tell us about the danger, Edward.” Tanya said quietly. “We’ll listen, and we’ll be on your side, where we belong.” Edward took a deep breath. “I’d like you to witness for yourselves first. Listen-in the other room. What do you hear?” “A werewolf, I assume. I can hear his heart,” Tanya said. “What is that thrumming?” Kate or Carmen asked. “Is that…some kind of a bird?” “No, but remember what you’re hearing. Now what do you smell? Besides the werewolf?” “Is there a human here?” Eleazar whispered. “No,” Tanya disagreed. “It’s not human…but…closer to a human that the rest of the scents here. What is that, Edward? I don’t think I’ve ever smelled that fragrance before.”  “You most certainly have not, Tanya. Please, please remember that this is something entirely new to you. Throw away your preconceived notions.” “I promised you I would listen, Edward.” “All right, then. Bella? Bring out Renesmee, please.”  I took one step into the bigger room and then froze, unable to force myself farther forward. Renesmee took a deep breath and then peeped out from under my hair, her little shoulders tight, expecting a rebuff.

Pg. 586-587  Edward put his arm around Renesmee and me. “You promised to listen,” he reminded them. “Some things cannot be heard!” Tanya exclaimed. “How could you, Edward? Do you not know what this means?” “We have to get out of here,” Kate said anxiously, her hand on the doorknob. “Edward…”  Eleazar seemed beyond words. “Wait,”  Edward said, his voice harder now. “Remember what you hear, what you smell. Renesmee is not what you think she is.” “There are no exceptions to this rule, Edward,” Tanya snapped back. “Tanya, you can hear her heartbeat! Stop and think what that means.” “Her heartbeat?”  Carmen whispered, peering around Eleazar’s shoulder. “She’s not a full vampire child. She’s half-human.”  The four vampires stared at him like he was speaking a language none of them knew. “Renesmee is one of a kind. I am her father. Not her creator-her biological father.” “Edward, you can’t expect us to-“ “Tell me another explanation that fits, Eleazar. You can feel the warmth of her body in the air. Blood runs in her veins, Eleazar. You can smell it.” “How?” Kate breathed. “Bella is her biological mother. She conceived, carried, and gave birth to Renesmee while she was still human. It nearly killed her. I was hard-pressed to get enough venom into her heart to save her.” “I’ve never heard of such a thing.” Eleazar said. “Come now, Eleazar. Surely you can see the resemblance.”  It was Carmen who responded to Edward’s words. She leaned down slightly, looking carefully into Renesmee’s face. “You seem to have your mother’s eyes, but your fathers face.” And then, as if she could not help herself, she smiled at Renesmee. Renesmee’s answering smile was dazzling. “Do you mind if Renesmee tells you about it herself?” I asked Carmen. “She has a gift for explaining things.” “Do you speak little one?”

Pg. 588-593 This chapter ends with Renesmee dazzling and stunning our visitors.  “Yes,” Renesmee answered in her trilling high soprano. “But I can show you more than I can tell you.” She placed her little dimpled hand on Carmen’s cheek. Jacob shifted his weight impatiently behind me, and I knew he was wishing the same. “What is Nessie showing her?” he grumbled under her his breath. “Everything,” Edward murmured. Another minute passed, and Renesmee dropped her hand from Carmen’s face. “She really is your daughter, isn’t she? Such a vivid gift! It could only come from a very gifted father.” “Do you believe what she showed you?” “Without a doubt,” Carmen said simply. Eleazar’s face was rigid with distress. “Carmen!” “Impossible as it seems, Edward had told you nothing but the truth. Let the child show you.” Carmen nudged Eleazar closer to me and then nodded at Renesmee. “Show him, mi querida.”  Renesmee frowned impatiently. “Watch, please,” she commanded Eleazar. She stretched her hand out to him and then left a few inches between her fingers and his face, waiting. Eleazar took a deep breath and then leaned closer until his forehead touched her hand again. “Ahh,” he sighed when his eye reopened a few minutes later. “I see.” “Eleazar?” Tanya asked. “It’s all true, Tanya. This is no immortal child. She is half-human. Come. See for yourself.”  *Tanya and Kate both are showed the exact story of Renesmee Cullen. They too are shocked by the truth. The conversation has now shifted to the real problem at hand…the Volturi.  “Thank you for listening,”  he said quietly. “But there is grave danger you warned us of,”  Tanya said. “Not directly from this child, I see, but surely from the Volturi, then. How did they find out about her? When are they coming?” “When Bella saw Irina that day in the mountains, she had Renesmee with her.” Kate hissed, her eyes narrowing to slits. “Irina did this? To you? To Carlisle? Irina?” “No,” Tanya whispered. “Someone else…” “Alice saw her go to them.” Edward said. “How could she do this thing?” Eleazar asked of no one. Tanya’s eyes tightened. “No matter what she thought… You are our family.” “There’s nothing we can do about Irina’s choice now. Its too late. Alice gave us a month.” “So long?” Eleazar asked. “They are all coming. That must take some preparation.” Eleazar gasped. “The entire guard?” “Not just the guard,” Edward said. “Aro, Caius, Marcus. Even the wives.” Shock glazed over all their eyes. “Impossible,” Eleazar said blankly. Eleazar scowled, and when he spoke it was nearly a growl. “But that doesn’t make any sense. Why would they put themselves and the wives in danger?” “Alice said there was more to this than just punishment for what they think we’ve done. She thought you could help us.” “More than punishment? But what else is there?” “Where are the others, Edward? Carlisle and Alice and the rest?” Tanya asked. “Looking for friends who might help us.” “We can witness for you,” Tanya said. “Certainly that much. We will consider what more we might do. It is a suicide mission, after all.” Kate flashed a grin back and then shrugged nonchalantly. “I’m in.” “I, too, will do what I can to protect the child,”  Carmen agreed. Then, as if she couldn’t resist, she held her arms out toward Renesmee. “May I hold you, bebe linda?” Renesmee reached eagerly toward Carmen, delighted with her new friend. Carmen hugged her close, murmuring to her in Spanish. It was like it had been with Charlie, and before with all the Cullens. Renesmee was irresistible. What was it about her that drew everyone to her, that made them willing to pledge their lives in her defense?

I looove the visiting vampires! This is my favorite part besides my beloved Marcus showing up later lol. I hope we get to see all the vampire chaos in the movie. I loved the vampire cousins scene at the wedding soo much! And Carmen and Eleazar were soo attractive together.  I hope it’s not all rushed by like other epic scenes. So, Miss Renesmee, what are we going to do about her? And where is Alice???????????

    Chapter 30 Irresistible
This chapter begins with all of Bella’s questions being unanswered, just like ours.  What did Alice want Bella to do with the clue of this person J. Jenks?  How are the Denalis going to take the news of Renesmee and what Irina had set in motion? And Bella is also doubting herself, her ability to protect Renesmee.  Will she be able to help if it came to a fight?  But, all of these questions, are soon forgotten,  when she and Edward find comfort in each others arms, there need for each other all consuming.  They spend the entire night together making love trying desperately to live only in the moment.  But as the sun rises, so does the tensions of the coming day.  Bella and Edward discuss the Volturi and what talents they have.  This is the first we find out about what Alec can do.  His ability to wipe out all senses is so scary to me.  But I was encouraged to think that Bella would be the one vampire unaffected by any of their talents.  And Bella begins to plan a way to protect her family.  Of course, Edward does not approve.  He still sees Bella as a vulnerable newborn.  I did get fearful that Bella would want to sacrifice herself for her family.  I did not want this book to end that way.  A tragedy!  So, hope was my only recourse, just like Bella is betting on Alice, I was betting on Stephenie Meyer to not kill off the  heroine of the story.  I really do love how the Denali clan are “shown” Renesmee.  I am going to love this scene when Carmen gets to see the story of Renesmee’s birth for herself.  And how she helps convince the rest of the clan.  Yes, irresistible is a fitting title for this chapter.  Thank goodness the Denali clan will witness and even stand up against the Volturi if need be.  Should I have hope?  I am like Bella, I am encouraged until I realize that Alice left and probably for a very good reason.

    Jeepers creepers where is everyone.
Anyway I know some of u may not like to hear this but I always find the relationship between edward and tanya to be really interesting mostly its probably bc of the fanfiction I read on how she’s always portrayed like a villian and acts like such a bitch. It almost makes the love triangle between edward and jacob feel boring. And I know that stephanie wrote a little more about tanya/edwards romance in midnight sun which I hope comes out one day. Call me crazy but I just wanted to let it out of my system

Loved your comment, Jite4! I really liked the way Renesmee “shows” the vampires about herself. I hope we will get to see the flashback of Renesmee’s birth from HER point of view. That would be interesting. I am so eager to see lovely MacKenzie Foy play Renesmee!

This is a chapter that I enjoyed reading so much. While it starts with a picture a little dark, knowing more about the strength of the Volturi, a Bella willing to do whatever it takes to change something, and an Edward with a completely reject to that idea, the chapter improvement. I liked seeing the closer interaction between the two families, beyond the terrible reason that led them to be there. And see in a more remarkable way what the myth of the “immortal children” represented to the sisters. But I like their loyalty to the Cullens in the end.
And I think, as each of the visit, Renesmee is simply irresistible to all of us, and she touched everyone. But not only for her talent, but because her way of being, so lovely and sweet.

This is a scene that I will enjoy seeing so much too!!

    Kisses from Argentina.

Hi ladies, a day late, with so much going on right now awaiting the camp out list!…. This chapter I found so enlightening when all the vampires arrive and Nessie shows them everything… she just pulls at everyone’s heart. You just can’t help it..! She is adorable… It was scary on the first read thinking omg! the Denali clan is going to run off in fear of the Volturi and the law…. but having promised Edward they would listen they find and see what has happened in the few short months since the wedding. ( In the previews it looks like Edward is going to travel to them,so it might be done a little differently). I wondered how they were feeling towards Irinia, the betrayal they feel now. And how quickly Carmen was drawn to Nessie…. and I think we are about to learn about a new gift in the family, in the next chapter too…..

“Run Forrest, Run” No No I mean, Run Nana Run!!! I’m trying to catch up. Discs wont let me comment, so I am replying to Jite. She always does such a great job anyway. I was at the Twilight convention last year, Mia/Carmon was asked about speaking spainish to Renesmee, she sadly said “that will not be in the movie” R U Kidding me??? It is so endearing and Mia accent is really beautiful. I am sorry they left that out. I realize they can’t have everything. But I was looking forward to this. Well on to the next chapter and catch-up time.
