Australia was founded as a repository for crooks and criminals — a wretched hive of scum and villainy, like the British Empire’s own Mos Eisley. Of course, that was a long time ago and the Australian national demeanor has since shifted from “kill or be killed” to “live and let live,” but David Michôd’s gritty 2010 drama Animal Kingdom chronicled some of the country’s more modern criminal descendents. In his upcoming sophomore effort, The Rover, the director takes things even further.

Robert Pattinson plays a denizen of the Outback in the near future, after a worldwide financial collapse has sent many like him running to the still viable mines of the Australian desert. “It’s like a new gold rush,” says Michôd. “Where people from all corners of the world have come out to the desert to scrape out an existence. Petty criminals and miscreants and hustlers.” Guy Pearce, who had an uncharacteristically reserved role in Animal Kingdom, gets to sink his teeth into a nicely nasty part opposite Pattinson. “The basic story is really quite elemental,” says Michôd. “You’ve got a really dark, dangerous, murderous person in Guy’s character, and in Rob’s character you have a quite troubled and damaged, but beautiful and naïve, soul.”

    Like I said before “We aint seen nothing yet!” Rob is just scratching the surface of his acting abilities.

    Can’t wait for this movie!!!.

    Please bare with me while I rant:
    (After reading a negative article about Rob shedding his twilight image, well, I had to speak)

    Correct me if I am wrong. But I
    really feel every role an actor does, if they do it like Robert does,
    makes up who they are as a successful actor and entertainer.
    Becasue Rob puts his heart and soul into them, I have loved all of Rob’s charactor’s. ESPECIALLY EDWARD!!!!!!
    My
    goodness, who else could have pulled that one off. As passionate as
    the “twi-hards” are, do you think just anyone could have pleased
    them???? Even after a petition of 75,000 opposing Rob being cast for
    Edward, he won them all over, at least most of them……….since you
    can’t find a person on the planet that will admit they signed that
    stupid petition.
    I resent “Edward” or “Twilight”, always being referred to as a negative step in his career, Au Contraire!!!
    “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!”
    I
    believe you benifit and grow from everything you do in life, especially
    in acting. Heaven forbid, we might not even know Rob, had we not been
    exposed to him through “Twilight,” which only prompted me to view all
    his previous movies.
    Journalists just insits on bringing up this
    point. If they ever read the books, they would realize what a difficult
    character Edward was, and just how brilliantly Rob played it. I wish
    they would do their homework. When will these people wake up and smell
    the flowers???? Well, the flowers smell like a very handsome, talented,
    british actor named Robert Pattinson. And he is going to be around for
    a long time. “So suck it up!!!”
    Just look at the “Twilight” movie & DVD sales. I rest my case!!!!!!

    Nana, journalist like to use Twilight, like a dirty word and Rob should want to disassociate from. But, when Rob talks is video interviews, he’s said many times, that Twilight gave him a life he would have never had otherwise and wouldn’t change it. They also fail to realize, that Twilight fans are very loyal and when we fell for Edward, we also fell for Rob, and we get to follow and support him and his career for years to come.
