Breaking Dawn Wedding
Fashion designer Carolina Herrera talks about designing Bella’s wedding dress for Breaking Dawn Part 1 with Vogue UK.
It took designer Carolina Herrera, and four seamstresses, over six months to make and was custom-made specifically for Stewart to wear in her on-screen wedding to her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen. Made using crepe satin and French Chantilly lace, the dress features 152 buttons on the back and 17 on each sleeve.“In the initial fitting when Kristen put the dress on and looked in the mirror, she was very moved,” the designer told us. ”In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film, she was a bride, and a happy one at that. It is always very important to make the bride happy, of course, and in this case I was delighted to do so. It was a very special moment for both Kristen and the character of Bella to share.”“I was of course inspired by Stephenie’s description of the gown in the book, but I added the touch of Herrera and also took into consideration the personality and the style of the bride,” said Herrera. ”A wedding dress is both an intimate and personal for a woman - it must reflect the personality and style of the bride. Bella’s dress is romantic and filled with a timeless sophistication, very similar to the character. In a way, this dress served as a symbol of the character’s coming of age and introduction into womanhood.”“Being a big follower of The Twilight Saga, I was very flattered to be a part of this fantastic project,” she told us. “I read the books and saw the first film and have been a fan ever since. You can’t walk down the street and run into someone who doesn’t know what Twilight is anymore, whether it be the books or the movie. Our bridal collections always possess a timeless elegance and sophistication and I found the same elements in Stephenie Meyer’s descriptions of Bella’s dress.”
You can buy the beautiful dress that Bella wore in her wedding as seen in Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1!
Alfred Angelo is selling pitch-perfect replicas of the Carolina Herrera original in ivory and white with sizes ranging from 0 to 30W.
Brides everywhere will be pleased to know that it’s available for just $799 in stores across the country.
The dress was shipped secretly to stores and was unveiled today, but it’s been in the work for months.
Under a confidentiality agreement that designer Michael Shettel jokes was “signed in blood.” The company, which used undisclosed code names for the Twilight dress project, limited its circle of principals involved to only about four people, the designer said. Mr. Shettel was also invited to the Los Angeles movie set to view the original dress.
The gown, which retails for $799 at Alfred Angelo stores nationwide, features long lace-trimmed sleeves, a Chantilly-inspired lace applique trim and a plunging cut-out illusion back. While the cinematic gown is in silk, the replica gown uses liquid satin. “The stitching on the bodice is the same, and the lace detailing is similar,” Mr. Shettel says. “There were pricing issues to try to get it down to $799. That was the biggest issue more than design issues.”

Kristen Stewart has revealed that she loved Bella’s wedding dress in our exclusive new interview!
Andrew Gunsberg spoke to the cast of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and got the goss on the wedding scene, including asking Kristen about how dirty Bella’s wedding dress got in the forest!
“Honestly it was seriously black on the bottom — you’re the first one to mention that! That’s an interesting thing to notice,” Kristen told thehothits.com.
And Kristen was definitely happy with the final dress.
“I loved it. Luckily I never put it on and went ‘uh oh’, you know what I mean, it always felt like it was very close to being perfect,” she said.
And while Kristen did get some say in the dress, it was really Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer who had the final say on what it looked like.
Kristen added, “Also it was such a committee, a decision by committee sort of thing. I knew that if I had something really big I could say it, but when it came down to it, as long as Stephenie was happy pretty much we were like, it’s all good.”
I bet it was black on the bottom in the forest. LOL! Another great interview with the cast!
