Carolina Herrera says Kristen Stewart was ‘very moved’ trying on Bella’s Wedding Dress

Fashion designer Carolina Herrera talks about designing Bella’s wedding dress for Breaking Dawn Part 1 with Vogue UK.

It took designer Carolina Herrera, and four seamstresses, over six months to make and was custom-made specifically for Stewart to wear in her on-screen wedding to her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen. Made using crepe satin and French Chantilly lace, the dress features 152 buttons on the back and 17 on each sleeve.

“In the initial fitting when Kristen put the dress on and looked in the mirror, she was very moved,” the designer told us. ”In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film, she was a bride, and a happy one at that.  It is always very important to make the bride happy, of course, and in this case I was delighted to do so.  It was a very special moment for both Kristen and the character of Bella to share.”
“I was of course inspired by Stephenie’s description of the gown in the book, but I added the touch of Herrera and also took into consideration the personality and the style of the bride,” said Herrera. ”A wedding dress is both an intimate and personal for a woman - it must reflect the personality and style of the bride.  Bella’s dress is romantic and filled with a timeless sophistication, very similar to the character. In a way, this dress served as a symbol of the character’s coming of age and introduction into womanhood.”
“Being a big follower of The Twilight Saga, I was very flattered to be a part of this fantastic project,” she told us. “I read the books and saw the first film and have been a fan ever since.  You can’t walk down the street and run into someone who doesn’t know what Twilight is anymore, whether it be the books or the movie.  Our bridal collections always possess a timeless elegance and sophistication and I found the same elements in Stephenie Meyer’s descriptions of Bella’s dress.”
It was an absolutely beautiful wedding dress.  Perfect.  I love Kristen’s reaction to the dress and Carolina is a Twilight fan!

It was sooooo beautiful….doubt anyone but Kristen could pull it off though

  • http://twitter.com/iamboobs YASEMIN TURNER

you’d have to have the figure for it, and I dont just mean skinny

  • Oldtwifan

Did anyone realize there are  ”17 buttons on the sleeves” Edward is 17!!  Still racking my brain to determine is there is significance in the 152 buttons down the back.

  • Woodz

The dress was perfect, true to the book and Kristen looked beautiful in it.

  • Tiffany Burright

the only thing in the movie i didn’t like was her dress…….. the dress she wore in the nightmare was better…… ):

so did anyone else notice that bella was wearing white sneekers under her dress when she was dancing with jacob

  • Hot Twi-Guys

Hahaha yeah I saw that! I was like, “What? I thought Alice was gonna make her wear those very beautiful extra-high heels!?”

I loved loved loved her heels but I agree with Bella, they were a little ridiculous, I don’t think I could even walk right in those and I’m a high heel lover!

  • Anonymous

I could do nothing but smile when they slowly revealed all the parts of the dress in the movie – very classy, elegant, and fit kristen/bella so well – bravo!

  • Hot Twi-Guys

I loved her dress!! Very vintage looking, which of course is what they were going for. I’m someone that likes vintage clothes, though. It was beautiful with all the buttons down her back and sleeves! Kristen IS the only one that could pull that dress off. And her shoes! Freaking loved her very high high heels! lol I also loved her dream-dress! That one was very pretty too!! I loved both dresses so much, I don’t think I can chose between them! I kinda wished that she was able to wear both dresses to the real wedding! haha

How could she NOT be moved? She was preparing to marry Robert…uh, Edward! ♥

I think the sneakers as oppose to the heels were used to give the illusion that Taylor
was taller than he really is. In the book Jacob is suppose to be 6 feet 7 inches i believe, whereas Taylor is about 5 feet 9 . By using sneakers they emphasis whatever height advantage that Taylor has over Kristen.

they were very high, but i thought it was cool to see the white little sneekers, wonder of ks had input

  • Anonymous

thats could be true but i just thought it was kind of sweet…… all dressed up but still got her trans on

  • Anonymous

Agreed! The dress fit the timeline of when Edward was human, but at the same time remained modern.

OMG! the dress is beautiful! <3..when me and my mom saw the dress we literally went :O !! I cried during the wedding! sooo gorgous! :') ! <3

i am in love with this dress…i’m happy that the designer is a big fan of the books and movies..and it shows through in the dress…i still remember a few sketches that were circulating around on the internet of a few designers who were asked to do sketches of the wedding dress and none of them were even close to what the book described…

kristen looked beautiful in it…it fit her like a glove (obviously, it was made to fit her), but her body type is perfect for that type of dress….and the shoes i have nothing to say because i am speechless, i am a shoe lover and when i saw those i immediately fell in love!

  • EdwardsNana

Personally, I don’t think anyone could wear this beautiful wedding dress like Kristen Stewart did and standing next to Robert Pattinson, didn’t hurt the view………It was breathtaking to see those two at the altar.

  • EdwardsNana

I think Kristen loves her sneakers……………….I have to throw this in…………since I am “team Edward”  They never need sneaker’s with Robert Pattinson…………..he stands very tall………..  : )

  • Gizzy

I did and thought it was so cute (so Kristin)

  • TwiKat

i totally saw that and they panned up so fast! i was wondering if that was intentional (most brides change into slippers during the reception, etc), or if that was a mistake, or like you said Licerne28, for the “Jacob height”. Wonder if they will explain that in the commentary!

Loved the subtle details (17 buttons, Edward is 17!)…was looking into more 1918 dresses but I think they did great! love that CH is such a fan and that KS loved it! love how she has input too! hope it planted a seed in their minds…robsten! lol…

wonder if this is why nikki went all out on her dress? but she did diamonds for buttons?

Me encanta que una latina este presente

  • Mrs. Edward

I think the sneakers were intentional.  Heaven knows I wouldn’t want to wear those heels the whole night through!  I would definitely change into something more comfortable for walking around and dancing!  And they were white too.  I bet, if you look closer, they are probably ‘fancied up’ just for the wedding.  My cousin did that and had brand new white sneakers with lace for the laces that matched her dress.  Great idea!!

That dress was just AIGHT, Nothing about it moved me, I see no reason for all the secrecy. The onlt thing cool about it was the back.

  • Anonymous

    I agree!!

  • Moondancer1012

I seriously must be the only one who didn’t like the dress.  I liked the back and I liked the front if they were on different dresses but the two together just didn’t seem to fit.  The front was very modern looking while the back was quite old-fashioned…..no flames please it is just my opinion!

  • Twimama

Not really she had a purfect back for this too bad wasnt real! She would have been a beatiful bride:)

  • Fanpire Cecy

Oh, I know you’re not the only one. The cut was real good, even though I expected the bottom to be a bit fuller. But I agree, somehow the front and back don’t seem to match. The front needed maybe a few more details.

  • http://www.breakingdawnmovie.org BreakingDawn

agree I noticed when I saw it the second time lol.

  • loveatfirsttwilight

its funny i never noticed it till i watched it for the third time. i thought it was really cute. its such a kristeny thing to do!

  • TATIANA_OME – Rob has a face?

I would be moved thinking about Robert/Edward ripping it off of me and ravishing me completely….wait, that’s not how the story goes  LOL

  • Kittypurr

I really like how CH design the lace it was really pretty.

ahhhh I loved those beautiful Manolos!

yo tambien pienso. Muy orgullosa que ella fuera la que hizo el vestido

There is just something so magical about these pics and these two beautiful people…..awwwww

  • EdwardsNana

Personally, I don’t think anyone could wear this beautiful wedding dress like Kristen Stewart did and standing next to Robert Pattinson, didn’t hurt the view………It was breathtaking to see those two at the altar.

  • kato

    I did

  • annika

how do you get sound on what shes saying in the video????

  • ifonly2011

I noticed…beings as Bella had already asked Alice if she could go barefoot, I thought it was a compromise between the two of them :) After seeing Kristen changing her heels at the L.A premiere I thought it was quite fitting!!

  • Anonymous

    well put

  • winndsinger

yea, i think Edward had mercy on her after the ceremony and gave her white sneakers as a gift, one she would not protest or give back to him!  LOL!!  I just picture him giving her that in a wrapped box, saying, “Here’s one thing I know you’re going to LOVE!”  That was probably her first gift, before the gift of Jacob arrived!

  • winndsinger

Bella prob did wear the high heels during the ceremony and then later being in the grass and the woods, dancing with people and all, the sneakers were a much better idea.  a lot of brides do that now.  I myself had to because the damn shoes were killing my feet two hours in.  LOL.  Nobody wants an unhappy bride with sore feet, you know?

  • DeaLunae

I think that it was an okay dress. I really preferred the nightmare dress to the actual dress. The back of the actual dress was stunning, but then I saw the front. I felt it was a bit too 70s futuristic for my liking. Edward’s suit was flawless, but the dress could’ve had a little more of a “wow factor” for me if it had been a bit more grand. I saw some pictures fans found on the internet of what they thought Bella’s dress would look like, and I thought some of those would have been more breathtaking and fitting than the one CH made.  Just my opinion…

  • SAtwilightfan

am i the only one who thinks her wedding shoes didn’t match her dress?

  • Pattiez

Did no one notice Alice’s smile and her “vision” of what to do with Bella’s aversion to the heels???
