Breaking Dawn DVD/Blu-Ray Sells Faster Than Eclipse During First Weekend

15 Comments February 13, 2012 by Filed Under: Breaking Dawn Blu-Ray, Breaking Dawn DVD

During its first weekend of availability Breaking Dawn Part 1 sold 3.2 million DVDs and Blu-rays. That’s 18% more than the same period for Eclipse, but not quite as strong as  the performance for New Moon.

There were also 50,000 digital sales, a 47% increase from Eclipse, and 80,000 video on demand rentals, a 142% increase.

Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, previous studio heads of Summit and now at Lionsgate , remarked on the performance:

The incredible fan support for the characters and story that author Stephenie Meyer has created never ceases to impress. We thank all of the fans for continuing their journey with us beyond the big screen and look forward to bringing you Breaking Dawn Part 2 later this year.

well I know I purchased both the Walmart and Target versions of the DVD; and if there’s a directors cut to be released later…probably after BD2, I’ll purchase that too.  So excited for BD2, but aren’t we all….sadly it means and ending to the whole series though.

I got the two disk edition from target and there weren’t any deleted scenes. I’ve looked online at all the different versions and none of them have it :(

  • VILF

Nope. That picture is from a scene they briefly show in the documentary part of the DVD. No Deleted scenes :(

no extra scenes, no extra minutes in the movie, can’t buy what you want, [ i have three girls and as uncle i have 5 nieces to buy for. sister lost her job of 15 years.] target sold out on some of those dvd’s, now to find out that if you are a army brat, there is a armed forces dvd with metal coin saying breaking dawn 1 with cullen logo & other side with the armed forces. then liongate wanting to make as many as three more 1/cullens 2/ renesme &jacob & voturi vs everybody to the death.

I am happy to have the Blu-ray, but pretty ticked off that it was not offered as a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack this time.  No deleted scenes or anything is kind of crappy too….

sorry but there is no deleted or extended scenes on any of the of the versions of the DVD or blue-ray. i did my research! i have a feeling that there going to do all of them on the breaking dawn part 2 or make a separate one all together to make more money cuz i will be buying. it sucked though cuz i was really looking forward to the bowl throw at Rosalie’s head. in interviews they did say it got cut out of the movie and i was so bummed! so hopefully we get to see that on the next one.

I am very upset that the breaking dawn dvd had ABSOLUTELY NO DELETED SCENES.  It seems as if they are taking advantage of the fan support.  Not good.

  • Sandrap

I got Breaking Dawn for Valentines and I love it BUT.. really no deleted Scenes.. really don’t understand this. Summit should know that the readers want to see ALL or atleast more scenes from the book. C’mon people!

  • Teri

There were a lot of deleted scenes, but apparently it seems that the distributors are getting greedy.  Too bad for the fans.
