Breaking Dawn director has reached out to fans and penned a small note to us all -
Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,
I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making BREAKING DAWN. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.
I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for “newborn” status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.
Like many of you, I’ve always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series DARK SHADOWS, which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn’t been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making GODS AND MONSTERS thirteen years ago, however, I’ve been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in BREAKING DAWN. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.
I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?
Please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I hope that this will be the first of many occasions I’ll get to check in with you as we set to work bringing BREAKING DAWN to the screen. I am excited and grateful to have all of you alongside me for my TWILIGHT journey.

Great post, but I hope he don't get off on a Vampire tangent like the rest–it's a LOVE STORY . *sigh* Why do all these people keep getting 'gothic and dark' from this saga? WTH? Yes, there are afew dark areas,but not like they want to portray them. I felt sadness ,elation,anger, surprise,and lots of love when I read it. Dark doesn't enter my mind. Maybe it's me. When I read this saga——-E&B's love and it's seemingly endless plots to kill it is the over riding theme–somehow it gets put on the back burner. Come on Bill—–you've read them —————-what do you read?

He is probably going to be my favorite director yet. Chris was great, and I know that David is going to be to. But if Bill took time to write a heart to heart letter to all the fans, (which I know that the other three did, but noting like this one) he deserves a chance to get our movie right, which I am confident that he will after reading this!

I hope that the screen writer does a better job at portraying our beloved series. So far she has left a tremendous amout OUT and a lot of fans VERY disappointed. I don't know how much if any say you have on that but please get it right. We all of our book in the movie NOT big chunks left out!! Is this possible

wow he will be a great director. the only problem is how breaking dawn is going to be written. i'm afraid that they'll take out sooo many stuff and make it extra corny or something. Breaking Dawn is my favorite book. Eclipse is my ultimate favorite from the entire series. I just hope they'll get it right this time and understand what the fans want. I really do hope that they will make another breaking dawn movie (2 parts)
This guy is a legend cant believe he has already written back! please have lots of edward i trust you! loved chris weitz as director, i believe david slade will be great! i was disgusted with catherine hardwick wat a joke! hans zimmer would be the ideal composer he is a musical genious! good luck and thanks for directing this movie for us

awwwww..cmon that HAS TO BE IN THE MOVIE!!!! edward and bella dance in the book and its gonna look weird if they dont dance!!!! EVERYONE IS WAITING TO SEE IT!!!ESPECIALLY SINCE JACOB GETS IN THE WAY AND DANCES WITH BELLA AS WELL….you just cant do that and i speak IN BEHALF OF HUNDREDS OF people that WE WILL NOT BE SATISFIED IF THERE ISNT A MUSICAL NUMBER…THERE JUST HAS TO BE!!!
i really think that bill will do an amazing job with breaking dawn, I can see he has really put himself into the book when he was reading it. of course we can all see that he's an avid fan and that's hard to find in most guys. obviously he really wants to do this movie and i trust him that breaking dawn will be successful! we already love you bill! wish the best of luck on BD.

Aloha…I know every one wants there state to be apart of breaking dawn…But to look at Esme's island I will love kauai (Na pali) to be in as my state..reason I please please ask everyone to please look at the island..for it has that mysteries feeling!! For all that has visit hawaiian Islands please support my opinion~ Hawaii has all the feeling that Mrs.Meyer has in the book!! warm weather, excluded, romantic, breath taken, adventures, must I say more??…LOL But again I'm very happy and very excited to see the total out come of the movie!!!

Except Bella's eyes should not be that bright gold, because as you obvously know newborns eyes are red. But check that pic out!

very well said! and yes this is a love story and that is what it should be when I read the books I too felt all that stuff and I also became very attracted to Edward LOL that part I was not planning on happening(but I am glad it did!) so it better be about E&B’s love for one another however this movie is not going to be very easy to make and there will be some controversary well mostly the media will make up CRAP that does not exist i do wish BC a WHOLE lot of luck cuz he will need it! and I wish the cast love, luck, and knock em dead with their amazing performances!

Hey hon-yep, BC has his work cut out in BD for sure. All we ask is GET IT RIGHT!! We know the cast will deliver their best——now if the production and writing only do the same. LOL
